Elsewhere Studios is a bridge between local culture and global communities through a thriving and distinctive artist residency program. The residency provides a unique and fertile landscape to nurture artists and their process through focused time and space, helping them to transcend to new levels in their work, awareness and lives. Located in the historic town of Paonia, CO, Elsewhere hosts artists in residence from one to six months periods. Since its inception in 2011, the program has served over 200 visual artists, writers, composers, sculptors, filmmakers and performance artists from 14 countries and 30 states. The artists bring contemporary art to the community (pop. 1500), through multiple monthly events (e.g. meet-and-greets, open studios, exhibitions, readings, performances and demonstrations). Classes and workshops are occasionally offered as well.
Elsewhere Studios has a notable presence in Paonia. Our programs and active community engagement positively impact the region and bring vibrancy to the Paonia Creative District. The building itself is a landmark to this burgeoning cultural destination. In addition to the residency program, Elsewhere oversees a community garden and operates a media internship with local high school students.
