Paonia became a site for Kristine Potter's newest project after spending a month in residence at Elsewhere Studios in 2012. For the past 3 years, Potter has returned to produce large scale portraits of men as well as landscapes in an attempt to build a more complex and psychological narrative of the fabled "American West." As a group, the photographs are both true and fictional. The story of one man... or many... in a landscape that is both beautiful and dangerous.
A reception with the artist will be held on Tuesday, March 31st from 6-8pm. The opening will also feature Naropa Sabine, who will be reading from a piece he's written to join these images in a forthcoming book.
Potter has produced a single, special edition of her photographs to be made available to the community that helped foster her work. The large scale prints will be sold by an ongoing auction with very low starting bids. A percentage of the winning bids will stay with the creative community of Paonia, helping both The Hive and Elsewhere Studios. All bidding ends on May 30th.
