4:00- Fiction Workshop by Janet Thornburg:  Building Characters- In this 50 minute workshop, we'll practice using sensory details to create vivid characters. We'll read what Flannery O'Connor said about crafting compelling characters and then use a passage from O'Connor's short story "Good Country People" to inspire us to write about our own fictional characters. Limit 12.

5:00- Nonfiction Workshop by Patrice La Vigne: Plot is What Your Characters Do and Say- In this 50 minute workshop, we’ll discuss the interaction of a character’s personality with a set of external circumstances and the components of effective outer characterization. Using body language, tone and descriptions, we’ll bring the characters to life. We’ll read a few excerpts for examples, then will practice good character development with a writing exercise. Come prepared with two real-life people you’d like to put together in a story. Limit 12

6:00- Poetry Workshop by Liz Cantrell: Making Images Come Alive- In this one hour workshop, we will turn abstract ideas into concrete images. We’ll practice taking a feeling, concept, or experience and making it come alive through specific description and word choices.  Limit 12
