Saggar Firing Workshop
Offered by Elsewhere Studios and Paonia Clayworks

Location: Paonia Clayworks 397 Clark St, Paonia, CO

September 8th from 1 to 5 pm:
A workshop will be offered in which participants will:
-Build a saggar
-Make and burnish a pot or tiles
-Learn how to apply terra sigillata
Participants will bring these pots to the September 22nd workshop.

September 22nd from 1 to 5 pm:
The whole Saggar Firing process will be covered:
-Kinds of clay that can be used
-Difference between using terra sigillata or not
-Different kinds of saggars, size, air hole etc
-Combustibles
-Colorings: natural and oxides, and how to apply
-Firing process
-Finishing the work
Participants need to bring 3 or 4 pieces of their own bisque fired work- can be pots or tiles, simple forms willing to experiment on.

Cost: 
Single workshop $40
Both workshops $70
Firings and materials included.

Teacher: Jolanda van de Grint from the Netherlands is an Artist in Residence at Elsewhere Studios for the month of September.
She is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Arendonk, Belgium, with much experience in saggar firing in electric kilns.
