Scholarships & Financial Support

If you feel genuinely called to be here and money is the only thing standing in the way — this page is for you.

Elsewhere holds a deep intention that no artist with a true calling will be turned away by money alone. We are not in a position to fully fund every residency, and we will always be honest about what we can offer.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We are relaunching after a period of deep renewal, and rebuilding scholarship funding is something we are actively working toward. Over more than a decade we offered partial and full funding to artists from underrepresented communities through grants and donor support. Those relationships are being reestablished with care as we rebuild — and as new grant partnerships come online, we will update this page.

What we can say now: if you need support, write to us before you decide not to apply. We will tell you exactly what we have and work with you from there.

COMMUNITY FUNDING & CROWDSOURCING

Is there a community around you — friends, family, a school, a creative network — who might want to invest in this chapter of your creative life?

We encourage you to ask. Not only because crowdfunding and community support can help generate the resources you need — but because of what the asking does. When you invite your community to participate in your residency, you are no longer going away alone. You are going with the investment and attention of people who believe in you. It deepens the reciprocity between your creative life and the people who witness it. We have seen it generate not just money, but meaning.

Some approaches artists have used: · A personal crowdfunding campaign — framing the residency as a creative project your community can support · Reaching out to a former teacher, alma mater, or arts organization that has supported your work · Applying for a regional or discipline-specific artist grant or emergency arts fund · Asking an employer or professional association about professional development funding

PAYMENT PLANS

Even a fee within your honest range can feel like a large sum at once. We are in the process of setting up a payment plan structure to offer. Please let us know if this would help you, and we can let you know where we are at in the process.

SUPPORT THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

If Elsewhere has meant something to you — as an artist, a neighbor, or a believer in creative community — consider making a gift to support scholarship funding for future residents. Every gift is the current flowing forward.

If you or your organization is interested in funding a named scholarship or fully funded residency slot, we welcome that conversation.

Elsewhere was such an amazing and vital part of my art making and mental health and I am so proud to have spent time with such a wonderful group of people.
